Content Description

Abstract:The Delaware Geological Survey BENCHMARK data base is a web based database for vertical control available in Delaware. The inventory includes vertical control from the National Geodetic Survey (NGS), the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS), and some state owned vertical control. The data is arranged by USGS quadrangle. The accompanying map has the USGS topographic grid overlain on it. By clicking on any particular quad, you can get a printout of the vertical control in that area.
Purpose:This database is the result of a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) beginning in 1981. The inventory is to aid surveyors in finding elevation points from which they can start flood insurance surveys.
Supplemental Information:Please reference the Delaware geological Survey if you use this data.
